The host window is the TASTEREMOTE window that runs on the computer receiving connections. This chapter explains the host window's menus and settings.
Host window
- To connect to this computer: Shows My ID and Password (or Unattended access on a registered PC). There are Copy ID, Copy password and New password.
- Sessions: Each viewer connected now shows on its own row. When there are none, "No viewers connected" shows.
What you can do on a session row:
While there are sessions, a Remote session in progress band shows at the top of the screen. From the band, you can open the list and disconnect sessions.
Tray
Closing the window keeps the host taking connections from the notification area (tray). The tray icon's menu has Open window, Copy ID, Disconnect all and Quit. To quit completely, use Connection › Quit or Quit in the tray.
Settings
Open it with Tools › Settings… (or the settings button at the top of the window). You can find items with Search settings at the top left. Changes apply at once, and Restore this page's defaults puts them back.
General
- Start at login: TASTEREMOTE starts when you log in and takes unattended access. It can be turned on only on a registered PC.
- Connect at the login screen (macOS): You can log in remotely even when this Mac is logged out. Turning it on or off needs an administrator. A program with root rights stays ready on this Mac, so a device administrator should turn this on only when it is needed. At the login screen only the picture and input work; files, the clipboard, sound and power are off. Connections by ID from other accounts are not taken. The remote session ends when you log in, so connect again. After updating the app or changing the device password, press Apply again. Screen Recording and Accessibility must be allowed beforehand, and you cannot connect at the FileVault screen right after a restart.
- Close to the tray: The window's ✕ only hides the window, and connections keep coming. On desktops without a tray, ✕ quits.
Display: Choose the theme and language. "System" for the language follows the operating system's language.
Security
- Unregistered PC: Enter the pairing code, this PC's name and the device password, then press Register to register this PC to your account.
- Registered PC: Change the Device password with Change… (sessions on now go on; the next connection uses the new password). Unregister removes the registration. Also delete the device in My devices on the web.
- If the password is entered wrong 5 times, unattended access is refused for a while. This protection rule cannot be changed.
Recording
- Record when remote control starts: Recording starts by itself when someone takes control of this PC and stops when the session ends.
- Record view-only connections too, Record the sound too
- Save to: Set the recording folder with Open and Change….
- Remove old recordings: When the folder gets bigger than the size you set (5 GB, 10 GB, 20 GB, 50 GB or no limit), the oldest recordings are removed first.
A recording is the screen exactly as the remote user gets it, saved as one MKV file per session. While recording, the viewer also sees Remote PC is recording.
Access rules: Sets ID connects from other accounts. See ID connects from other accounts.
Connection history: Shows connections to this PC and refused requests by Started · Who · Access · Duration · Result. There are Refresh, Export… and Clear.
Updates: Shows the installed version and the new version.
Allow updates from the server: When on, this device's owner and the server administrator can update this computer from the signaling server. Only the server's version with a verified signature is installed.
About: Shows the version and the website.
Settings set by command-line options show "Not available in this run".
